Greenwich Village Celebrity News

Greenwich Village is enjoying quite a bit of celebrity news, ranging from properties put on the market to renaming streets after celebrities. Keith Richards has put his Greenwich Village penthouse on the market while his neighbor Ann Dexter-Jones has placed her apartment on the market as she prepares to move in with her husband, Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones. Meanwhile, a group of Greenwich residents move to rename Eighth Street after legendary musician Jimi Hendrix.

Keith Richards Puts Penthouse Back on the Market

After initially listing his Greenwich Village penthouse on the market in March 2016, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and his wife have put the property back up for sale. The rock star initially listed the property for $12.23 million just two years after purchasing it with his wife and model Patti Hansen for $10.5 million. After failing to find a buyer, the property was finally delisted that September.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home located at 1 Fifth Avenue is now back on the market for $11.995 million. Other features include an open floor plan and 47-foot frontage along Fifth Avenue connecting the apartment’s dining, living and entertaining spaces. One of the apartment’s three terraces is adjacent to the dining room, while each of its four bedrooms has its own en suite bathrooms.

Ann Dexter-Jones’s Greenwich Village Duplex Placed on the Market

Jewelry designer Ann Dexter-Jones is reportedly moving in with her husband, Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones. Therefore, she has decided to place her Greenwich Village duplex on the market for $4.995 million. Located at The Portsmouth, the duplex was designed by Gilded Age architect Ralph S. Townsend in the early 1880s.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom home features an office that could be converted into a third bedroom. Other features include 11-foot ceilings and four wood-burning fireplaces. The kitchen, dining room and third bedroom/office are all located on the lower level while the master suite and the other bedroom are located on the main floor, with the master suite occupying its own “wing.” The duplex is in the same neighborhood where Keith Richard’s recently-listed four-bedroom penthouse is located.

Honorary Street May be Named After Jimi Hendrix

If a group of Greenwich Village residents get their way, Eight Street may be renamed after the legendary Jimi Hendrix. In hopes to recapture the countercultural spirit of the block, a group of activists chose Hendrix in part due to the fact that the musician was thought to have lived on Eighth Street toward the end of his life.

The movement to honor Hendrix’s legend has been spearheaded by Rob Key, who lives in the rental cottage where the musician is believed to have once lived. The activists maintain that the Hendrix name represents the artistic energy that is fading away from the street. Some signs of the area’s artistic history are still in place, however, including Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios and a few artist-operated independent stores and boutiques. Most of the area, however, is a mashup of nail salons, restaurants, coffee shops and vacant storefronts.
