Enjoy Free Movies This Summer Aboard “The Intrepid”

Join the Intrepid Museum for its eighth annual Summer Movie Series beginning on July 7. Enjoy free feature films on the flight deck, under the stars!

Each film will be introduced by a special guest, including Star Trek screenwriter Nicholas Meyer and David Baranek, Top Gun instructor, former naval aviator and pilot in the film.

You’re welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as lawn chairs, picnic baskets, and blankets. Access to the flight deck will begin at 7 p.m., and the program begins at sunset, weather permitting. Admission tickets  (free of charge) will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis before the screening. Space is limited.

The movie schedule is as follows:

July 7 – Star Trek (2009): Young, brash James T. Kirk and cool, logical Spock must move past their rivalry to defeat a time-traveling Romulan, whose mission of vengeance threatens to destroy all mankind. PG-13. 127 minutes.

July 14 – Star Trek IV The Voyage Home: Admiral James T. Kirk and his exiled crew travel back in time to the 20th century to retrieve now-extinct humpback whales—the only creatures that can communicate with an alien probe threatening Earth. PG. 119 minutes.

July 21 – Galaxy Quest: When aliens call upon the cast of a sci-fi television series to save them from attack, has-been actors must rise to the challenge and play their roles once again—but this time, the mission is real. PG. 102 minutes.

July 29 – Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan: Admiral James T. Kirk and the crew of Enterprise find themselves in a showdown with the outlaw Khan Noonien Singh, an old enemy intent on revenge and armed with the ultimate weapon: the Genesis Device. With introduction by t he film’s screenwriter, Nicholas Meyer. PG. 113 minutes.

August 5 – Big Hero 6: Young robotics whiz Hiro Hamada teams up with his robot companion Baymax and some tech-savvy friends to save their city from a criminal plot, in Disney’s animated adaptation of the popular Marvel Comics series. PG. 102 minutes.

Please note that all exists are final; there is no re-entry. There is no smoking in the Museum complex. One ticket per person. You must be in line to receive a ticket. All new arrivals must join the back of the line. Access to the flight deck will begin at 7 p.m., and ticket holders will be allowed entry to the Museum complex. Be sure all members of your party are in line by 7 p.m.

Standing wait times for movies can exceed two hours. If the event is canceled due to weather, an announcement will be posted on the Museum’s Facebook and Twitter pages by 4:00 p.m. on the day of the event.

Museum members enjoy priority admission in our members-only line. Become a member today to enjoy this and many other benefits. Members at the Individual, Student or Dual level receive priority admission for two people. Members at the Family level and above receive priority admission for six people.
