Four Events This Saturday in NYC

Get out and about this Saturday! These events around New York include something for everyone, from adult-only cocktail events, to outdoor adventures in Central Park, and even a sighting of a few hundred mermaids. Don’t you love our city in the spring?

BOURBON WALK: The NYC Bourbon Bash is an awesome day of fun, excitement, entertainment and of course, excellent bourbon. Enjoy eight premium bourbons at 8 of NYC’s leading bars.  Bourbon Bashers will enjoy small food tastes as well as a tasting of a different select bourbon at 8 different venues in downtown New York City, all included in their ticket price. A portion of ALL proceeds will go to benefit local non-profit and charitable organizations. So come rock out all day with great bourbon, delicious food, music, and the most fun you can legally have. You’ll leave with some great memories.

ADVENTURES IN NYC: Get ready to bike, climb, race, and paddle at Adventures NYC! On Saturday, June 18, join NYC Parks in Central Park to celebrate the great outdoors and enjoy a day of adventure – for free! Activities will include rock climbing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, yoga, mountain biking, obstacle races, free bike valet parking, outdoor gear exhibits, and more. Certain activities will require a waiver, which will be provided at the event for participants to sign. Participants under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian present to sign the waiver.

MUSIC IN THE GARDEN: This event series celebrates NYBG’s 125th Anniversary and complements the Garden’s spring and summer programs with lively performances on the Conservatory Lawn under the evening sky. Enjoy an evening viewing of Impressionism: American Gardens On Canvas, and bring your picnic blanket to take in each show with a complimentary “Fresh-Picked from the Garden” cocktail from Hangar One Vodka and refreshments for purchase from the 1891 Alehouse. Ernesto Villalobos and Gizel Xanath perform with the Mariachi All-Stars to bring to life Linda Ronstadt’s Canciones de mi Padre (Songs of My Father). The talented and colorfully costumed dancers of Mazarte Dance Company join the performance, and will be sure to get the crowd on their feet!

MERMAID PARADE: The Mermaid Parade features over 1000 people wearing glittery semi-nude costumes, floats with aquatic themes, and classic cars that drive east along Surf Avenue on Coney Island in Brooklyn. The MERMAID PARADE specifically was founded in 1983 with three goals: it brings mythology to life for local residents who live on streets named Mermaid and Neptune; it creates self-esteem in a district that is often disregarded as “entertainment”; and it lets artistic New Yorkers find self-expression in public. Unlike most parades, this one has no ethnic, religious, or commercial aims. It’s a major New York holiday invented by artists! An American version of the summer-solstice celebration, it takes pride of place with West African Water Festivals and Ancient Greek and Roman street theater. It’s features participants dressed in hand-made costumes based on themes and categories set by us. This creates an artistic framework on which artists can improvise, resulting in the flourishing of frivolity, dedication, pride, and personal vision that has become how New York celebrates summer.
