It’s A Dog’s Life at the New York Dog Film Festival on October 2-3

Love the dog in your life? You won’t want to miss the first annual New York Dog Film Festival on October 2-3, a celebration of the bond between dogs and their people.

The festival will take place in the luxurious 765-seat theater at Peter Norton Symphony Space on the Upper West Side of New York City, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street. There will be two shorts programs, each with completely different selections of short films: a medley of animated, documentary, and narrative films from around the world, celebrating the remarkable bond between dogs and their people.

There are a total of 40 films, ranging from 1 minute to 30 minutes, evenly divided between the two shorts programs. Each program is edited into one continuous film experience (with an intermission!) to create a shared audience experience of joy, amazement and amusement about our relationship with our canine friends. You won’t want to miss any of it, so be prepared to buy tickets to both programs and settle in! The films are appropriate for children of any age.

Ruby and Jack’s Doggy Shack on the Upper East Side will host the gala premiere Opening Night cocktail party for dogs and their people (although people may attend without a dog, too!) on October 2, 2015. There will be craft beer and delightful snacks provided for people by The Jeffrey Craft Beer and Bites, along with fine wine, surprise cocktails and amazing treats for the dogs, too. This opening night party is a celebration for those lucky few who buy a limited edition Founding Member ticket. The ticket entitles them to this party, a doggy swag bag and an “all-access dog tag” to wear the following day at the Film Festival, Saturday October 3rd. Please note that there is a limited number of Founding Member tickets. To be assured of a spot at the  Gala Premiere Pooch party, and V.I.P. seating at the theater, get your tickets now.

Do you wish there was somewhere your dog could go to have fun while you enjoy canine-themed films, surrounded by other dog lovers? Your wish has come true! Ruby & Jack’s Doggy Shack on Second Avenue near 60th Street (which is hosting the gala cocktail Pooch Party on October 2nd) is welcoming the chance to show your dog a great day while you are at the movies. Contact the nice folks at the Doggy Shack for information and reservations and to arrange for pick up.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Bidawee. Bideawee, which means “stay awhile,” in Scottish, is one of the country’s oldest and most respected animal welfare and pet adoption organizations. Founded in 1903, Bideawee has been cultivating and supporting the life-long relationships between pets and the people that love them for more than 100 years.  Bideawee provides an array of services including adoption centers, animal hospitals, pet therapy programs, and pet memorial parks that serve pets and their people on their lifelong journey together.  Bideawee is a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 humane animal organization and 100% of Bideawee’s funding comes from private sources. Bideawee operates one facility in Manhattan and two on Long Island: one in Wantagh, and one in Westhampton.
