There are individual and group categories for both adults and children, as well as a mixed division for families. Last year’s winning entries included a giant squid catching a fish, an uncanny sculpture of a man sunbathing and a cleverly molded Atlantis. Live bands, dance troupes and a magician will entertain spectators on the boardwalk while the sculptures take shape.

The 24th Annual Coney Island Sand Sculpting Contest brings together individuals, families and artists to celebrate our community. Professional sculptors will build remarkable sculptures while amateurs from within the community and across the region will challenge each other for cash prizes. It will be a family-friendly-fun-filled day with live entertainment and activities for kids. This annual event frequently attracts local and national press as well as 3-4,000 visitors from the community and across the country. All event proceeds will support rebuilding efforts in Coney Island following the devastation of Superstorm Sandy.

Saturday, August 16, 12:00 p.m. Boardwalk between 10th and 12th Sts, Coney Island, Brooklyn. Subway: D, F, N, Q to Coney Island–Stillwell Ave.
