Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité in Williamsburg

Step off the L train on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg and escape to Paris on North 5th Street at Café Juliette. This charming brasserie offers the scrumptious delights of France in a fabulously decorated café with an incredibly strong Parisian feel. Owned and operated by Thierry Rochard, a native of the Brittany region in the northern France, his beautifully furbished bistro provides authentic French fare in the heart of Brooklyn. Mr. Rochard uniquely styles the café with vintage antiques from his travels in France.

Café Juliette boasts a lovely rooftop terrace overlooking Bedford Avenue as the vivacious beat of Williamsburg lies below. This beautiful outdoor space is ideal for the sipping of a refreshing cocktail. The bistro serves a generous selection of European liquors and wines, from Pimm’s, an English favorite, to Bohigas Cava, a dry sparkling wine from northern Spain. The menu is reasonably priced and provides an assortment of French dishes including crispy duck confit and handcut steak tartare.

Nestled in the cobblestoned streets of the West Village, Mr. Rochard maintains Café Juliette’s sister restaurant, Tartine. Also specializing in French fare and a relaxed European atmosphere, Tartine offers quintessential French favorites including croissants and pain au chocolate priced at $3.00. All in all, both Café Juliette and Tartine are excellent choices for New Yorkers seeking a bite of Europe’s classic café culture and to embrace “la joie de vivre”.

We have a handpicked selection of our personal favorites of Café Juliette’s finest dishes. If you’d prefer to begin your meal with a savory cocktail, we highly recommend Pimm’s Tonique, a fruity mixture of Pimm’s liqueur and ginger beer.  Start off your experience right by ordering the steak tartare appetizer followed by delicious steamed mussels with pomme frites as an entrée, all to be washed down with a glass (or two!) of the refreshing and light house white wine.
